Pastatoyou is now offering a really cool program for
children. Having done children’s programs at the Lower Providence
Library, I realized how much fun the children had watching spaghetti
being made from flour…. not just opening a box of spaghetti from
the cabinet. This program can be designed to fit your situation.
The whole process takes about an hour. Along with making the pasta,
the children will learn some interesting facts about a very old tradition.
They will see an old pasta machine dating back to the 1800’s! I come
in a full chef’s outfit! Some schools build the program by making
their own chefs hats or aprons before I arrive.
*Pasta for children is made with NO eggs for safety reasons. Safety
of machines will be stressed.
Ages 2-4 (Max group of 6 at a time)
Program: I will arrive about 30 minutes prior to demonstration to
set up. I will come with dough already made and ready to roll and
cut out. I will have bags of dried pasta for them to pass around
and see the different shapes. Each child will have their own ball
of dough to roll out with my assistance and help from you on a
hand crank pasta machine. They will have a baggie with a sample
of pasta for them to cook at home.
Ages 5-8 (Max group of 8 at a time)
Program: I will arrive about 30 minutes prior to demonstration to
set up. I will start with flour and add water to create the pasta
dough. While the pasta is resting I will show the old pasta machine
dating back to the 1800’s.Each child will get their own dough to
take turns rolling and cutting the spaghetti. They will use both
manual and electric machines with my assistance and help from you.
Each child will go home with a sample of uncooked pasta.
Ages 9- 13 (Max group 10 at a time)
Program: I will arrive about 30 minutes prior to demonstration to
set up. I will start with flour and ask for volunteers to help
me measure and mix. I will show them the different flours and explain
why we use certain flours when making pasta. After mixing the flour
and making the dough we will discuss the old pasta machine dating
from the 1800’s and other cool stories about pasta making. Rolling
and cutting the pasta will take the longest. I will ask for help
from the children. THEY LOVE DOING THIS! Each child will go home
with a sample of the uncooked pasta that they made.
Cost of programs for 1 hour of instruction:* $100 –cleanup
is included
*Additional travel cost might apply
Children’s Birthday Parties
(Max of 20) Suggested
age: 8 years and older
I will arrive about 30 minutes in my chefs outfit prior to set up.
Let’s gather around the table and make pasta! Watch as flour becomes spaghetti
in about an hour. It is magical to watch the children as they see how “real”
spaghetti is made. We start by talking about the flour and asking volunteers
to help with measuring, rolling and cutting the pasta. We learn about “kneading”.
After we are done with the whole process, they can taste a small sample of homemade
pasta with either butter and cheese or marinara sauce and cheese. (I will have
pasta pre-cooked with sauce on the side) I will provide paper plates, forks and
napkins. All clean up of the demonstration is included. The whole process should
take about 1 hour. Cost is $12 per person- $100 party minimum
(Additional travel cost might apply)
* Birthday boy or girl can be the chef for the night if desired.
I will direct them each step of the way.
Payment is expected at that time. Cash is perfect! Sorry no credit cards.
